Score By Enrolling Service Station Staff in Learnerships
Running a successful service station takes more than just fuel on tap – it requires skilled, motivated staff who can deliver great service every day. That’s why FUEL is now a fully accredited provider of learnerships in the fuel retail sector, helping dealers build stronger teams while unlocking significant financial and compliance benefits.
By enrolling service station staff in our accredited learnerships, fuel dealers gain access to valuable tax allowances, BBBEE scorecard points, and refunds. Learners who complete the programme successfully receive a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 2 certificate (SAQA ID 62709), giving them a recognised qualification and the confidence to grow.
Learnership Options for Service Station Teams
We offer three specialised learnerships tailored for fuel retail roles:
-
Forecourt Attendant
-
Cashier
-
Food Handler & Delivery
Classes are conducted online via webinars (around four hours each), so learners don’t need to leave the site. All they need is a PC, tablet, or laptop. Where needed, FUEL can arrange an iPad and secure bracket to ensure smooth participation.
Tax Benefits for Dealers
Participating in accredited learnerships opens the door to the SARS S12H Learnership Allowance, a powerful incentive designed to reward training investment:
-
Annual Allowance – claimed for each year of assessment during the learnership (prorated if shorter than a year).
-
Completion Allowance – a once-off allowance when a learner successfully completes the programme.
These allowances can be claimed in addition to one another, making accredited training an attractive way to reduce taxable income.
⚠️ Important: The S12H Learnership Allowance applies to agreements registered before 1 April 2024 and completed by 30 June 2027.
Incentives for New Hires
Fuel dealers who bring new staff (aged 18–29) into their workforce via learnerships can also qualify for the Employee Tax Incentive (ETI). This provides refunds of up to R18,000 per new hire, reducing wage bills while supporting youth employment.
BBBEE Skills Development Points
Skills development is one of the largest contributors to a company’s BBBEE scorecard. By investing in learnerships, fuel retailers can improve compliance while strengthening staff performance.
FUEL also connects dealers with expert Skills Development consultants who specialise in the fuel retail sector and can provide tailored guidance.
